Nasr hails ‘very important’ victory

Felipe Nasr has described the victory he secured in Race 3 at Oulton Park as crucial in terms of his bid to win the 2011 British F3 title, with the Brazilian driver taking home another 41 points this bank holiday weekend. The 2009 Formula BMW Europe Champion has finished on the podium in all bar one of the races so far this season, and he was left content after another strong event.

"It’s very important for the championship, so another great weekend," Nasr told GPUpdate.net after the final race. "We finished second in the first race then fifth in the second one and now we have finally got another win for our team. I’m happy now leading the championship even more, so it’s pretty good."

Nasr went on to talk about the pressure applied by Lucas Foresti, although he revealed that he had more pace available if needed: "Once I got two seconds to him I just started taking it easy, saving a bit of my tyres because I knew if he got close there was more to come. It was just being under control in the race, there were no mistakes, putting in good laps and being consistent."

Brazil's Felipe Nasr was able to convert his Race 3 pole position into victory at Oulton Park on Monday afternoon, maintaining a consistent gap to Lucas Foresti who crossed the line 3.4 seconds behind. In a distant third, Menasheh Idafar bounced back from retirements during the opening two races to complete the podium.

Nasr delighted with qualifying performance

British Formula 3 Championship leader Felipe Nasr was in high spirits after qualifying at Oulton Park on Saturday, with the Carlin Motorsport driver set to make two front row starts this weekend. The 18-year-old claimed pole position for Race 3, and he narrowly missed out on the double by a margin of just 0.042 seconds.

"I’m really happy," Nasr explained to GPUpdate.net after qualifying at Oulton Park. "I mean we had the potential to get both poles, but it’s still a very good result for qualifying here.

"It is very important to be on the front row here, because in the race it is quite difficult to overtake. So it is better you start the race and just finish and make as many points as you can. I think we are in a good way to start the weekend, so it’s very good.

When asked about a possible repeat of his victories at Monza, the Brazilian remained cautious due to the drastically different Oulton Park circuit layout.

"This place here is not the same as Monza, because at Monza you have plenty of time and space to overtake, but here if you get a car in front it is really difficult to overtake," Nasr added. "I guess it won’t be the same as Monza, but we can still get a very good result, so let’s see."
