Post-race penalties handed out at Monza

British F3 stewards at Monza have handed out four post-race penalties following the third and final race of the weekend on Sunday afternoon. Will Buller, Rupert Svendsen-Cook, Fahmi Ilyas and Scott Pye have all lost positions for corner-cutting.

As a result of the penalties, Fortec Motorsport's Buller drops from fourth to seventh, while team-mate Ilyas loses two places by falling to 12th. Svendsen-Cook moves down the order to eighth, and Pye has now been classified as 14th after initially finishing the 40-minute Feature Race in 11th.

Carlos Huertas, Pietro Fantin, Kevin Magnussen and Riki Christodoulou have all gained points because of the decision, although the podium remains unchanged. Lucas Foresti was also penalised earlier in the day for his involvement in an accident with Menasheh Idafar during Race 2, dropping him out of the points.

Buller claims double Monza pole

Fortec Motorsport’s Will Buller secured pole position for both Race 1 and 3 at Monza on Saturday afternoon, with the Briton upsetting the practice form book to edge out Kevin Magnussen around the 5.793-km (3.600-mi) circuit. Lucas Foresti and Jazeman Jafaar were the last men under the 1:46.000 barrier, and will form the second row for the first race of the 2011 campaign.

After the session, Buller commented: "It’s a great way to start the season. It just shows that it’s the first qualifying session that matters and not all the pre-season testing times. The whole team has put in a massive amount of hard work to get us here, and I’d like to thank each and every member for their dedication. Qualifying is all about managing your tyres and I nailed it today."

Carlos Huertas is the next man on the Race 1 grid at the wheel of his Carlin machine after setting a time of 1:46.000, while Riki Christodoulou lines up just behind the Colombian. Exeter-born Harry Tincknell will start from the third row, with Felipe Nasr just 0.017 seconds behind. Pietro Fantin secured ninth, while practice pace-setter Rupert Svendsen-Cook completed the top ten.

     Saturday’s Race 1 begins at 4.40pm local time (BST+1)
